APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS | RECENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Each Chapter conducts fundraising projects and awards scholarships at various levels. To date, our 25 Chapters around the US, Canada and Australia have collectively raised and awarded more than $2,000,000 in culinary scholarships to deserving students.
Many of our scholarship recipients have gone on to illustrious careers in the food, wine and hospitality industry:
Amanda Hesser, food writer, New York Times:
"Les Dames d'Escoffier gave me a chance to take my interest in food and find my way to a career that suited me. With their support, I worked in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France, and eventually went to cooking school. By the time my scholarship ended, I had found my place. I was writing."
Sara Moulton, Host, Food Network's "Cooking Live"
"LDE provides critical career boosts and opportunities for young people who may not otherwise pursue a career that is inherently demanding."
To Apply for a LDEI Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded by individual Chapters of LDEI. Each of our 25 Chapters around the US, Canada and Australia select scholars (or other charitable recipients) and participating higher education institutions for the culinary arts via their own criteria.
We welcome inquiries form potential scholars looking for financial assistance in pursuing their career in the culinary arts. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship through any of our Chapters, please contact our Executive Director, Greg Jewell, gjewell@aecmanagement.com. He will put you in touch with the chapter nearest you. Please keep in mind that not all chapters provide scholarships and that most of our Chapters offer scholarships on a geographic basis. It is possible that your inquiry may not fall into the jurisdiction of one of our Chapters. Nonetheless, we will make every effort to assign your inquiry to a Chapter in your closest vicinity.
Melissa Termyna, 2002 Scholarship Winner, LDE-New York
"I am very excited about the opportunities that this award and being part of the organization have presented for me. I have found a new confidence to seek out new experiences in which I can absorb and lend knowledge to and from others. I hope to become involved in many new culinary experiences in the future, and hopefully to become another success story of your organization."
Celia Dumbra, 2002 Scholarship Winner, LDE-New York
"I'm writing to express my appreciation of your generous award. The opportunity offered fulfills a goal and greatly supports my culinary education and career . . . Your gift represents much more than financial support, it promotes equal opportunity in our industry and the advancement of my food and wine education."
